Objective
I am most interested in community redevelopment through community planning and architectural and great urban design. I strongly support sustainability, participatory design processes, and public interest design. My professional focus is to strengthen the built environment and urban fabric of inner city neighborhoods to create innovative spaces for people to enjoy their lives.

Working in a flagship location of the major brand retailer, served a a member of the visuals team for a year. Duties included daily updates of retail floor layouts and product placement, dressing and styling mannekins, and determining placement of props and furniture pieces.

Summer 2008
As a summer intern at this NYC firm I worked on construction documents, specifications, and a landmark process. I surveyed a brownstone and completed the existing conditions drawings and reports to submit to the landmarks commission I also designed a stainless steel garbage cover for a client, supervised contractors on site, and completed redlines on the projects in the office at the time.

As an undergraduate student at Syracuse, Tya became an active student leader. During her time she was one of the core members of the Society of Multicultural Architects and Designers, a student-programming group, serving as President for two years and Student Advisor during her last two years. Tya also sat on the Curriculum Committee for the School of Architecture, was a Peer Advisor to incoming students, and was appointed to the Chancellor’s Task Force. Her personal interest in urban redevelopment led to her acceptance in the Ronald E. McNair Baccalaureate Program, which prepares students for graduate studies. Tya’s most memorable accomplishments were conceptualizing an planning the Transitions Symposium and serving as Graduation Class Marshall for the School of Architecture.

During her graduate studies in architecture, Tya also completed a Certificate of Urban Design, studying under the respected urbanist Jonathan Barnett. Her graduate studio wasi with Penn Praxis, providing a real client and project analyzing high speed rail and super regional connectivity in Central Florida. While at UPenn, Tya was also a member of the BSA (now Diverse Design) and served on the Unspoken Borders Conference planning committee.
